KitchenAid K45SS Classic 250-Watt 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer, White
Product Description
This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. The bowl itself locks tight to the base.

A piece of junk to avoid
After 18 months of occasional use the mixer died in a show of smoke and sparks. Kitchenaid says the warranty is 12 months, so "tough luck".
I love this machine
I really do love this machine. I talked my aunt into buying one for me for a wedding present. Needless to say, the mixer has lasted longer than my marriage. I haven't gotten any of the fancy attachments or extras. I just have the bowl, and the three basic attachments (paddle, whisk, and bread hook). Addmittedly, I think I've only used the bread hook a few times. I have a bread machine, so I just don't need to use it. However, the mixer has enabled me to make hundreds and hundreds of cookies every winter holiday season. I also use it to make mashed potatoes and massive amounts of zucchini bread (you know, from those monster zucchini that get away from you in the garden). As a matter of fact, my mixer has helped to make my reputation of being an above average baker. My mixer has never let me down. It is heavy enough to mix the really tough doughs and fast enough to whip up egg whites. My only complaint is that the little handles on the "lock" and "speed" switches fell off almost immediatly. Not a big deal, but slightly irritating.
Buy at own risk!
I received this mixer for a wedding gift almost 8 years ago. I used it very little in the first years, just cookies maybe once a month. From the day I opened it, it made a "weird" noise when in use but because it was so infrequent I often forgot about it until I used it again, finally realizing my warranty (VERY short at only a year!) was up. I decided to just use it until it died. It is still going but has been leaking oil/grease for sometime, today deciding to spew grease in my cheesecake. :( I went online to see why it was doing this only to find TONS of horrible reviews of similar situations and breaking mixers and horrible customer service. If it's after a year it isn't their problem it seems. I think when you pay hundreds of dollars for a product it should come with some sort of care. Unfortunately KA has fallen in the last few years, no longer is it the product we will pass on to our children and grandchildren. So sad. I won't be buying another one when this one dies for good. I will go with Cuisinart or Viking.
